Laidlaw’s first book, Mud in Your Eye, published in 1973, was a bestseller in NZ, Britain and in South Africa, where it was banned. It was the first time a contemporary player had objectively analysed the state of the game worldwide.
This book revisits a very different rugby landscape but one in just as great a state of crisis as it was a generation earlier. Laidlaw discusses professionalism, the 2011 World Cup, the modern scrum, coaching and the All Blacks as role models.
