Kate Findlay is a high-powered corporate lawyer and her adoptive mother has just died. With her death comes not only sadness but the freedom for Kate to find out who her birth parents are and see they are still alive.

Of all the surprises in store for Kate, the most amazing one is the love story she uncovers. This journey empowers Kate to take hold of her life in a new way and find love in unexpected places.

This novel is set in New Zealand with fade-to-black romantic scenes.

Review: 5/5
A delightfully poignant, bittersweet portrayal of love between two women that defies the conservative societal mores of 1980s New Zealand. Having visited the three main cities mentioned by the author, Auckland, Wellington, and remote Dunedin, home of the University of Otago, I could not help but re-live the remoteness, isolation, and 1950s persona of that beautiful country so skillfully captured by the words chosen by Ms. Thomas. The fade-to-black romantic scenes will disappoint readers who want something more explicit. For readers who want to feel the beauty and hope of life-long passionate, consummate, intimate, committed love, this novel delivers. Seamlessly juxtaposing the stories of two sets of lead characters, as Ms. Thomas does in this novel, requires a mastery of technique rarely found in authors who write in this genre. Ms. Thomas writes just enough to spark the reader’s own imagination and in so doing, creates a novel that is unique for each reader. I found this to be a wonderfully satisfying novel that left me both sad and happy and wanting to read more of Ms. Thomas’s work.
