Little children in the hospitals lay in cots looking out between bars, doing hard time as days passed without a nappy change, a hug, or any sort of encouragement to learn the basics of walking and talking. The babies would turn up at the hospital perfectly healthy and slowly, but surely, become disabled, both mentally and physically. Sue’s empathy with the children’s plight was real and palpable and what was so impressive was that she extended that empathy toward the parents who had abandoned their children. – Jan Bowron, Journalist
