Writer’s Plot Upper Hutt mini winter festival provides activities for kids and teens, in the July school holidays. Create with fun-filled experiences through different aspects of stories, writing and books.
This winter festival combines a series of fun events –
- Help kids develop imagination and a love for writing and reading
- Promote books and storytelling with authors from the greater Wellington region
- To encourage creative writing
- Promote and celebrate NZ writers
Koha/donation of $5 per workshop per child at the festival is very much appreciated.

Mini winter writing and story festival
Venue: Hapai Hall, Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt
Date: Saturday 21st July 2018 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Programme of activities
9 am-1 pm – All Day Book Hub – meet authors, books for sale
9:15-9:35 – Reading stories with Grannie Laine
9:30-11:00 – Create realistic, dramatic and quirky characters, and put them in a story with Helen Vivienne Fletcher. Creative writing for 8-12-year olds
9:45-10:45 – Explore Storytelling with Linda Hansen. A fun activity for 6-10-year olds. Props and costumes provided
10:30-11:00– Stories and dragons with Eileen Mueller – try on some dragon wings and hear dragon stories by Eileen
11:00-1:00 – Write a short story, illustrate it and turn it into your very own book with Ben Spies. Writing and crafts for 7-12-year olds
11:00-12.30 – Hamish with Project “Story Soup”– beta testing a writing app for 13 years and up
